Funding Bids Now Being Processed
The application process was run throughout February with grants to be provided from the Police Property Act Fund, which the Commissioner is responsible for distributing.
Before the closing date of February 28th a total of 69 groups or organisations from across Gwent took the opportunity to submit funding bids.
The Commissioner and his deputy have now begun the task of processing the various bids according to criteria set out. The applicants will be notified whether their bid has been successful by end of March.
Gwent Police and Crime Commissioner, Ian Johnston commented:
"Due to the current financial climate I'm not surprised about the volume of bids we have received. Deputy Commissioner Paul Harris and myself now face the difficult challenge of appraising each of the bids against the funding criteria to work out which organisations we are able to support.
"Supporting organisations which help make Gwent a safer place is what this process has been about. Many of those who have submitted applications do excellent work in our community, work which is often unseen and sometimes goes without recognition.
"I would like to thank each and every organisation which has taken the time and effort to make an application, and wish that I could support every one. However there is a limited pot of money available so the deputy Commissioner and myself will ensure that the funding is allocated in a way which is both fair and maximises the benefit that it will make to reducing crime and anti social behaviour"
