Decisions

The funding will be provided to Newport Live who currently leads on coordinating the delivery of the Positive Futures Programme, for sports based diversionary activity for children and young people at risk of becoming involved in the criminal justice system in Gwent.

In 2020/2021 new arrangements for supporting community safety and youth offending in Gwent were put in place, which were implemented from 1st July 2020. A budget of £650,000 has been set for community safety and youth offending in Gwent. Of this £216,000 is retained for non-Local Authority partners, whilst the remaining £434,000 will be allocated to Local Authorities to contribute towards their community safety and youth offending provisions.

The following amounts have been granted:

£385,400 to New Pathways to contribute to the delivery of Sexual Violence Services in 2022/2023. New Pathways is an organisation which provides rape crisis and sexual abuse support services, including management of the Gwent Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC). Specialist provision is also available for children who are victims of sexual abuse

£69,500 to Cyfannol Women’s Aid to contribute to the delivery of their Horizon Support Services. Cyfannol Women’s Aid provide domestic abuse and sexual violence services across Gwent.

The changes to the Police and Crime Act 2017 provided the Police and Crime Commissioner with enhanced oversight of the complaints system and responsibility for handling appeals (reviews). The Police and Crime Commissioner agreed to award the contract to Sancus Solutions Limited following a joint tender process with Dyfed Powys and North Wales. the contract period is for 36 months with the option to extend for a further period of 2 x 12 months. The contract will commence 03/04/2022.

The following organisations received funding:

St Giles Trust - £122,794
To deliver one to one crisis intervention to young people and their families, at risk of involvement or involved in serious violence and organised crime; and co-deliver the ‘Fearless’ Programme in Schools with Crimestoppers.

Crimestoppers Trust - £40,851
To co-deliver the Fearless Programme to Year 7 pupils in educational establishments with St Giles Trust; and provide targeted support to schools in hotspot areas where serious violence or organised crime is an issue.

A total of £35, 785 has been granted to contribute to the work of the Anti- Social Behaviour and Fire Crime Practitioner at South Wales Fire and Rescue Service in 2022/23.

The contract duration is for a period of three (3) years with the option to extend for up to a further two(2) years

The successful grants are listed below:

Cefn Golau Together (Blaenau Gwent)- £11,574 towards the Nip it in the Bud Project. The project will run activities for the whole community but with specific projects for families, children and young adults to improve physical and mental health and wellbeing whilst promoting a sense of community belonging, mutual respect and responsibility.

Newport Yemeni Community Association (NYCA) (Newport) - £43,070 towards a NYCA Youth Empowerment Programme which will provide a preventative programme providing options for the young people to get involved, engaged and empowered to make positive life choices.

County in the Community (Newport) - £11,307.50 to deliver the Premier League Kicks Project in Ringland. Weekly sessions will be provided on a Friday outside of school hours and in school holidays

Empire Fighting Chance (Torfaen) - £15,158.40 to provide the Fighting Crime in Torfaen Project. The project will combine non-contact boxing and intensive personal support, for young people from Torfaen who are at risk of entering the criminal justice system. Young people will be recruited via referral partners, including schools, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and Gwent Police and be referred to one of two programmes,

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent has agreed to provide £25,000 to the Gwent High Sheriff's Community Fund for 2022/23, with an option of match funding up to an additional £25,000. A further £15,000 to support year 1, 2 and 3 of the Superbid will also be provided.
