Pupils captivate Commissioner at annual Grand Council meeting
This week the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Jane Mudd joined over 90 children from schools across Newport for the council’s annual Grand Council event.
The event took place at the University of South Wales; Newport was the perfect space to inspire and innovate learners.
Throughout the day pupils participated in a range of workshops that offered the children with an opportunity to learn new skills and change perceptions about their communities.
The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Jane Mudd said: ‘I was delighted to be invited to the event. Grand Council provides a safe space for children from schools across Newport to come together for a common purpose. To have fun, be inspired and learn how to respect their peers and communities.
‘I was lucky to participate in Cynefin Pamoja’s Anti Racism workshop. The session took learners on a journey, to discover the importance of the Wales Anti Racism Plan. I was pleased to see the pupils interacting and listening to how they can make a difference, to the future in Wales. The session is timely as this week marks Hate Crime Awareness Week. Our children are the future, if they can take one thing from the workshop and share it with their families and friends, I know that message will make a difference in our breaking down barriers and making our communities safe.’
