Cwmbran RFC celebrated at community awards
Cwmbran RFC has been recognised at the annual Torfaen Volunteer Awards for its work supporting communities across the borough.
It received the Heart of the Community award, sponsored by Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd, in recognition of its community work.
The club, which can trace its roots back to the 1800s, enables hundreds of children and young people in Torfaen to develop their rugby skills, keep fit, and build their confidence and teamwork.
Club volunteers also provide hot meals to local residents on Sundays. They give back to the community by supporting local dementia groups and running a warm hub for people who may otherwise feel isolated.
The award also recognises the vital contribution of volunteers, whose time, commitment and compassion help the club provide activities and practical support for people of all ages throughout Torfaen’s communities.
She said: “Ensuring that children and young people have safe places to go, opportunities to take part in healthy activities, and support from positive adult role models is a priority for me. It is one of the main ways we can prevent children from being drawn into crime and antisocial behaviour.
“Cwmbran RFC not only provides these opportunities, but its volunteers also look after the wider community by supporting vulnerable residents and giving everyone a safe, welcoming place to go.
“I would like to commend everyone at the club for all they do to support their local community. This award is well deserved, and I hope to see the club continue to thrive for many more years to come.”
