The Wales Safer Communities Network was established in January 2021 following the recommendations of the Welsh Government’s Working Together for Safer Communities Review 2017.

Their mission is to become the strategic voice for community safety in Wales, through working collaboratively with their members to champion and support community safety partnership working and influence the shaping and development of national policy and local practice. 

A review of the Manual of Corporate Governance is undertaken on an annual basis by the Strategic Planning Group. The Joint Audit Committee considered the amendments at their meeting held on 2 March 2023 before final approval was requested from the Commissioner and Chief Constable at the Strategy and Performance Board Meeting on 8 March 2023.

Age Cymru Gwent - To continue to fund 21 hours of support by the Older People's Caseworker. Amount: £19,977.

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB) - To continue to fund the Well-Being Practitioner jointly with ABUHB. Amount £30,785.

Umbrella Cymru - to provide support to those victims who require it in relation to their gender or sexual identity. Amount £5,000

In 2020/2021 new arrangements for supporting community safety and youth offending in Gwent were put in place, which were implemented from 1st July 2020. A budget of £667,360 has been set for community safety and youth offending in Gwent. Of this £216,000 is retained for non-Local Authority partners, whilst the remaining £451,360 will be allocated to Local Authorities to contribute towards their community safety and youth offending provisions.

The following organisations received funding:

St Giles Trust - £127,706
To deliver one to one crisis intervention to young people and their families, at risk of involvement or involved in serious violence and organised crime; and co-deliver the ‘Fearless’ Programme in Schools with Crimestoppers.

Crimestoppers Trust - £42,485
To co-deliver the Fearless Programme to Year 7 pupils in educational establishments with St Giles Trust; and provide targeted support to schools in hotspot areas where serious violence or organised crime is an issue.

A total of £35, 785 has been granted to contribute to the work of the Anti- Social Behaviour and Fire Crime Practitioner at South Wales Fire and Rescue Service in 2023/24.

The funding will be provided to Newport Live who currently leads on coordinating the delivery of the Positive Futures Programme, for sports based diversionary activity for children and young people at risk of becoming involved in the criminal justice system in Gwent.

The funding will be provided to Newport City Council who currently leads on coordinating the delivery of the IDVA service until long term commissioning and funding arrangements have been agreed

The following amounts have been granted:

£464,723 to New Pathways to contribute to the delivery of Sexual Violence Services in 2023/2024. New Pathways is an organisation which provides rape crisis and sexual abuse support services, including management of the Gwent Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC). Specialist provision is also available for children who are victims of sexual abuse

£155,256 to Cyfannol Women’s Aid to contribute to the delivery of their Horizon Support Services. Cyfannol Women’s Aid provide domestic abuse and sexual violence services across Gwent.
