Police and Crime Commissioner praises Gwent’s neighbourhood policing teams

19th June 2026

Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd has praised Gwent’s neighbourhood policing teams for the vital work they do to keep communities safe and supported across the region.

Speaking during Neighbourhood Policing Week, the Commissioner thanked officers and staff for their hard work, dedication and ongoing commitment to serving the people of Gwent, often in challenging circumstances.

Neighbourhood Policing Week of Action (15–19 June 2026) is an opportunity to recognise the important contribution neighbourhood policing teams make in tackling local crime and anti-social behaviour across England and Wales.

During the week the Commissioner joined the local policing team in Bargoed for a patrol, and spoke to officers about the work being done to tackle anti-social behaviour in the town centre.

She said: “Gwent’s neighbourhood policing teams do a crucial job, building trust and understanding with our communities and tackling the issues that matter most to local people.

“Our communities have told us that they want to see more visible policing, and I have been really pleased to see how Gwent’s Community Action Team has worked over the last year, strengthening the local response in the areas that need it most and delivering results.

“Policing, rightly, is the subject of much scrutiny, but we must recognise the good work that our neighbourhood teams are doing every day, often putting themselves at personal risk. Their presence provides reassurance and helps prevent crime before it happens. I would like to thank officers and staff, on behalf of the people of Gwent, for their service.”
