White Ribbon Day 2023
White Ribbon is the UK’s leading charity engaging men and boys to end violence against women and girls.
White Ribbon Day is an annual event which is held to coincide with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
This year it takes place on Saturday 25 November and the theme is ‘#ChangeTheStory’, aiming to reverse the narrative that women and girls are responsible for threats to their own safety.
Most violence against women is perpetrated by men. Women and girls live with a fear of violence from men that men do not experience in the same way.
- One in four girls in mixed-sex schools have had experiences of unwanted sexual touching in school.
- Six in 10 women have felt harassed in the gym by a man.
- 1.7 million women experienced domestic abuse in the year ending March 2022.
In the run up to White Ribbon Day the office has been delivering road shows at Coleg Gwent campuses in each of Gwent’s five counties. The team have spoken to hundreds of learners, encouraging them to pledge their support to ending violence against women and girls, and sign posting them to support services. They have also delivered pop-up sessions in supermarkets across Gwent.
Following White Ribbon Day on Saturday there are 16 days of action where you can continue to show your support. For more details visit the White Ribbon website.
Victims of domestic abuse or sexual violence can contact Live Fear Free which is a free service provided by the Welsh Government. Visit the Live Fear Free website or call 0808 8010 800.
