PCCs working together to strengthen victims’ rights in Wales
Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd joined Wales’s PCCs for a special event hosted by the Victims’ Commissioner, Baroness Newlove, this week.
The event, hosted at Victim Support’s national contact centre in Cardiff, included a roundtable discussion on how Police and Crime Commissioners can play a crucial role in monitoring local compliance with the Victims’ Code under the Victims and Prisoners Act 2024. Police and Crime Commissioners have new responsibilities to ensure that criminal justice partners are delivering victims support services in line with the Act.
The event was also an opportunity to meet with Victim Support staff to better understand the work they do to support victims of crime across the country.
Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd said: “This was a really good opportunity to come together and discuss how Police and Crime Commissioners can use their position to bring partners together and strengthen the delivery of victims’ rights in Wales.
“Improving the support for victims of crime in Gwent was one of the key commitments in my manifesto prior to election, and I am proud to be playing an important part in improving the service that all victims of crime in Wales will receive going forward.”
