National Police Memorial Day
Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent Jane Mudd has paid tribute to police officers who have been killed or lost their lives in the line of duty.
The Commissioner joined officers and staff from Gwent Police for a memorial service at Gwent Police headquarters in Cwmbran ahead of National Police Memorial Day on Sunday 29 September.
National Police Memorial Day was founded following the killing of Kent Police officer Jon Odell in 2000. The annual event is an opportunity remember police officers who have lost their lives, but also recognise the dedication and courage displayed by police officers across the UK.
Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd said: “This is an opportunity for us to remember those officers, both here in Gwent but also across the country, that have tragically lost their lives while serving their communities.
“Every day our officers must deal with situations that most of us will never have to experience in our lifetimes. They do this to protect us and to keep us safe, and we must never forget the dangers they face so we don’t have to.
“I would like to pay tribute to all police officers past and present, and thank them for their service.”
