Commissioner addresses Wales’s antisocial behaviour practitioners
The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Jane Mudd, has given the opening address at a conference for professionals working to tackle antisocial behaviour in Wales.
Commissioner Mudd is the antisocial behaviour lead for Policing in Wales and a co-chair of the Wales Safer Communities Board, and was speaking at the All Wales Antisocial Behaviour Practitioners Network’s annual conference.
The event brings together partners from local government, policing, fire and rescue, the Welsh Government and the third sector to share knowledge and best practice.
Jane Mudd said: “Tackling antisocial behaviour is incredibly complex and what people see as antisocial behaviour looks different across our communities. We will never eradicate it completely, and one size fits all approach will not work.
“However, we do know that intervening early in the lives of our children and young people can help to steer them away from these behaviours. We do know that creating opportunities for them to channel their energy into something positive is incredibly important. We do know that working as partners to achieve this is key.
“This is why the Wales Safer Communities Network, which brings everyone together to share their learning and successes, is so crucial. There is a huge amount of good work taking place across in across Wales and it is important that we come together to learn and consider how it can be applied to our own communities.
“It is a challenging problem and one which I intend to prioritise as part of my own Police and Crime plan for Gwent. Despite the many challenges that we face I am confident that, together, we can make a difference.”
