Celebrating our volunteers
I was pleased to meet with volunteers from two of the schemes managed by my office.
Independent Custody Visitors ensure that Gwent Police are meeting the strict conditions required within their custody suites. They also check on the welfare and wellbeing of people detained in custody.
Animal Welfare Visitors are responsible for welfare checks on Gwent’s police dogs, whether they are home, in work or at shared boarding kennels in south Wales. They ensure the animals are happy, healthy, and well looked after.
These volunteers all play a crucial role in helping me hold the Chief Constable to account on behalf of the communities of Gwent, and I would like to thank them all for their hard work. They are helping me to make a difference and I look forward to joining the volunteers as they make their visits in the near future.
While I am new to the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, I am not new to public service. I know just how crucial volunteers are to support critical services, look after vulnerable members of our communities, and provide life changing opportunities for our children and young people.
Every hour spent volunteering makes a difference in some way and without the goodwill, hard work, and commitment from Gwent’s many volunteers our society would be so much the poorer.
So, I would like to thank all volunteers in Gwent, no matter your role, for everything you do for our communities.
