Youngsters enjoy football match against Gwent Police
Young people from Caldicot took part in a six-a-side football tournament against officers from Gwent Police, to help break down barriers and build trust between young people and the local neighbourhood policing team.
Monmouthshire County Council’s youth service and sports development teams worked with Gwent Police, Positive Futures and Newport County to host the tournament.
The tournament was one of many activities funded by the Welsh Government Summer of Fun fund and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner through the Positive Futures initiative.
The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Jeff Cuthbert said: “I am really pleased to see the tournament taking place.
“I am a strong believer in sport being used as a mechanism to break down barriers between young people and the police, to change perceptions and increase respect. I would like to thank everyone involved in the event.”
Positive Futures delivers projects across Gwent and receives funding from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner as part of the Commissioner’s commitment to keeping neighbourhoods safe and increasing community confidence in policing.
