We Don’t Buy Crime
Gwent Police has been supporting businesses in Torfaen this week, providing forensic marking kits to tradespeople to help them keep their tools and assets safe.
The force’s We Don’t Buy Crime team provided the kits to tradespeople using businesses at the Llantarnam Industrial Park in Cwmbran. They contain Smartwater, a liquid that has a unique forensic code that is almost impossible to remove and makes items traceable to the original owner. They also contain signs to warn criminals that Smartwater is in use.
The ‘We Don’t Buy Crime’ model has been used by forces across the UK to successfully reduce repeat offending and victimisation.
Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd said: “For a small business or sole trader, having tools and other assets stolen can destroy your livelihood. We Don’t Buy Crime is a proven deterrent to criminals and is just one of the ways we are working towards a safer Gwent and making a real difference to our communities.”
