Hip-hop project helps Torfaen children stay active over summer

Children and young people in Torfaen learnt hip-hop dance skills over the summer break thanks to funding from the Police and Crime Commissioner.

Hip Hop 12 delivered sessions throughout the summer, giving children a chance to learn how to use mixing tables, practise their dance skills, and get creative with street art. The project also helped young people build friendships, try something new, and develop skills in a safe and supportive environment.

The sessions are designed to boost confidence, self-esteem and resilience, while giving children something creative to channel their energy into throughout the summer break.

Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd said: “It has been fantastic to see children from Torfaen busting their moves and learning how to DJ at the Hip Hop 12 summer holiday project. We know that the long summer break does bring with it a risk that children can become disengaged and drawn into anti-social behaviour, and projects like this keep them happy, healthy, and using their energy positively.
