Protecting our NHS colleagues
Gwent Police’s We Don’t Buy Crime team have been working with the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board to tackle the growing problem of the theft of vehicles, and the theft from vehicles, on NHS property.
The team have been using a range of methods to identify criminals targeting property belonging to NHS staff.
Most recently this has resulted in male being arrested, charged, and sentenced to 24 weeks in prison.
Police and Crime Commissioner Jeff Cuthbert said: Sadly, despite the crucial role our NHS colleagues have played saving lives throughout the pandemic, NHS staff are increasingly having their vehicles targeted by thieves.
“No theft is acceptable but targeting hospital workers, and patients and their families, is particularly despicable.
“I am pleased that the partnership approach between Gwent Police and the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board to tackling these appalling crimes is working, sending a clear message to thieves that this will not be tolerated.”
