New youth club opens in Brynmawr
More than 40 young people turned out for the opening of a new youth club in Brynmawr’s Welfare Park.
Guests were able to try their hands at Beatboxing and DJing, as well as gaming with their friends and taking part in a host of other activities.
The club is run by the Blaenau Gwent Youth Service and is open every Wednesday for young people 11+ from 6pm – 8pm at the Terrace Garden Tea Rooms.
Greg Morgan, team manager with Blaenau Gwent Youth Service, said: “We have been working for a long time to establish a youth club in Brynmawr and I am delighted that so many young people turned out for the opening night.
“We have been working with young people to ensure that the club will offer the sorts of activities that interest them, and we are now busy planning our programme for the summer.”
The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent contributed £550 towards equipment for the club.
Police and Crime Commissioner Jeff Cuthbert said: “I am pleased to have contributed to the new youth club in Brynmawr.
“By offering children and young people positive opportunities such as this we can help to deter them from engaging in antisocial behaviour, while also helping them to learn new skills, make new friends and live happier, healthier lives.”
