Understanding what’s important to young people

27th February 2023

This week I met with young people from the Gwent Regional Youth Forum who are working with my office to help coordinate and host Youth Question Time 2023.

Youth Question Time is a ‘Question Time’ style event that provides young people from across Gwent with a platform to have their voices heard by quizzing a panel of professionals about issues that are important to them.

I am delighted to be joined on the panel by Chief Constable of Gwent Police Pam Kelly, The Children’s Commissioner for Wales Riccio Cifuentes, and Sexual and Reproductive Health Dr. Jane aDickson.

The event takes place on Wednesday 15 March 6.00pm- 8.00pm at Torfaen Learning Zone, Coleg Gwent campus.

The planning session allowed me to talk, listen and understand some of the issues affecting young people and their communities.

The group spoke of incidents of anti-social behaviour, and vandalism and how easy and accessible vapes are to children and young people.

I will feed these issues back to the Chief Constable via my weekly one-to-one meeting, however, to tackle many of the issues we must work in partnership with the community, local authorities, health, local businesses, and housing associations to tackle the problems.

I look forward to finding out about more of the issues that are important to young people at the event.

The event is for young people aged 11-25. Register to attend by clicking the link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/.../gwent-youth-question...
