Police and Crime Commissioner welcomes confirmation of government funding for PPE

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Jeff Cuthbert, has welcomed the confirmation from the UK Government that the costs police forces have incurred purchasing medical-grade personal protective equipment to manage the Covid-19 crisis will be reimbursed in full in November.

Jeff Cuthbert said: “I am pleased that the UK Government will be reimbursing the significant costs police forces have incurred to equip officers appropriately during the Covid-19 crisis.

“Having the correct PPE available for has been crucial to ensure the welfare of police officers, staff and the public.

“It is reassuring that we do not have to find the additional money for this equipment from our already stretched budget.”
