Police and Crime Commissioner to temporarily step back

*Police and Crime Commissioner Jeff Cuthbert has resumed duties as of 26 February 2024*

The Police and Crime Commissioner Jeff Cuthbert has decided to temporarily step back to recover from a period of ill health.
 
Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Eleri Thomas will take on the role of Acting Police and Crime Commissioner until PCC Cuthbert is able to return.

Eleri has served as Deputy PCC since 2016 and currently leads for the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner on areas such children and young people, criminal justice, equalities, domestic abuse and violence against women and girls.

Eleri Thomas said: “This is a temporary arrangement to allow the Police and Crime Commissioner to recover from a period of ill health and return to work at the earliest opportunity.

“During this time I will carefully manage the statutory functions entrusted to the position of the Police and Crime Commissioner, and support the Chief Executive and staff in the wider work of the office.”

The decision was confirmed at a special meeting of the Gwent Police and Crime Panel on Friday 12 January 2024.
