Police and Crime Commissioner calls for tolerance and understanding
Jeff Cuthbert, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, is calling for politicians and the public to use careful, considered language when engaging in debate during times of heightened political sensitivity.
He said: “Politicians of all parties need to give careful consideration to the rhetoric they use, particularly in these politically-charged times. Right now, we need tolerance and understanding, not scapegoating and fear-mongering.
“History shows us that divisive language can influence negative actions and even dangerous behaviour. We all have a responsibility to consider the impact our words can have on others. Together, we should all be focussed on driving community cohesion for the greater good.”
