Pen-y-Cwm police cadets passing out parade
Police cadets from Pen-y-Cwm Special School in Ebbw Vale have celebrated their success at a special passing out parade.
The children have been working with Gwent Police over the last year as part of the cadet scheme. They have taken part in lessons on how to stay safe, learnt how to use police walkie talkies, and had a visit from the police dog unit.
They also receive regular visits from local community support officers.
Teaching assistant Nicola Jenkins said: "The cadet scheme really helps the children to build their confidence. It breaks down the barriers between the children and the police, and shows them that they don't need to be scared when they see a uniform.
"We have fantastic support from the local community support officers and I would like to thank them for everything they have done for the children."
Police and Crime Commissioner Jeff Cuthbert said: "It is lovely to see the children enjoying themselves and really engaging with the cadet scheme.
"It is an important way we are working with Gwent Police and the community to break down barriers and build confidence in policing from an early age."
