PCC praises Gwent’s emergency service workers
Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd has paid tribute to emergency service workers and volunteers across Gwent in recognition of national Emergency Services Day.
Emergency Services Day is held annually to honour the vital contribution made by those who work and volunteer in the emergency services.
Commissioner Mudd joined colleagues at Newport Civic Centre for a minute’s silence and a flag-raising ceremony to mark the occasion.
She said: “Today is a chance to say thank you to the emergency service workers and volunteers across Gwent who dedicate their lives to saving others and keeping our communities safe.
“Over the past few years the emergency services have been stretched like never before and I am appalled that assaults on these brave individuals continue to rise.
“Their hard work and commitment has never been more evident. They put themselves in harm’s way to protect us and deserve to carry out their duties free from threats, violence, and abuse.
“I want to take this opportunity to once again thank our police officers, emergency service workers, and their families for their selfless service, which helps keep us all safe.”
