PCC meets farmers at livestock market

10th October 2025

Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd visited Monmouthshire Livestock Market this week to speak with local farmers.

Making Gwent’s rural communities safer places to live and do business is one of the key commitments set out in the Commissioner’s Police, Crime and Justice Plan, launched in March this year.

She was joined by Gwent Police’s Rural Crime Team for the visit, which regularly attends the market to engage with farmers and rural workers about the issues affecting their businesses and communities.

Commissioner Mudd said: “Gwent is an incredibly diverse region, and I believe many people don’t fully appreciate the strength of our rural economy. I’ve seen first-hand the devastating impact rural crime can have, not only on livelihoods, but also on our food supply and local tourism. These crimes are often linked to wider serious and organised criminal activity.

“It was really good to speak with farmers about their concerns, and also see the hard work of the volunteers who run the markets’ wellbeing hub, which helps to look after their welfare.

“I’m committed to working closely with our rural communities, and I’m reassured that Gwent benefits from a dedicated rural policing team that understands the unique challenges these communities face and that is working hard to protect them.”
