Have your say on police funding in Gwent

11th November 2024

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Jane Mudd, is asking residents for their views on police funding for the next financial year.

Police and Crime Commissioners are responsible for setting the amount that residents pay towards policing each month through their council tax. Almost 40 per cent of Gwent Police’s overall budget of £173million comes from local council tax.

To make this decision the Commissioner must take into account the amount of money that the Chief Constable says Gwent Police needs to operate an efficient and effective service, the annual financial settlement from the UK Government, funding from the Welsh Government and Ministry of Justice, and the affordability for local residents.

Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd said: “This is a difficult decision to make at any time, particularly now when so many people in our communities are struggling financially. However, without a rise in the council tax precept significant savings are going to have to be made.

“Before I make a decision, I want to give you an opportunity to have your say, raise any concerns you may have, or make comments. I promise that your feedback will be read and considered, and that it will influence my decision making.

“Please take a few minutes to complete my survey and have your say.”
