First Minister briefing
Police and Crime Commissioner, Jeff Cuthbert, said: “I was pleased to meet with the First Minister this week to discuss local restrictions in the Caerphilly Borough, which have been extended for the next seven days.
“Fortunately, cases in Caerphilly appear to be reducing which shows that these local restrictions, however frustrating, do work. Newport also seems to be stabilising.
“We also met separately with the First Minister, Education Minister, education colleagues and Vice Chancellors from across Wales to discuss the return of students to universities and higher education.
“The relationship between local universities in Gwent and the police is very positive and I am supportive of the Education Minister, Kirsty Williams, when she says that students mustn’t be unfairly blamed for spreading the virus.
“I am reassured that the majority of students in Gwent are following guidelines and behaving very responsibly.”
