Commissioner opens new community space at Newport mosque

23rd February 2026

Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd joined members of the Newport Central Jam'e Mosque to formally open its new garden and community space.

The new space has been funded by donations and will be used to host activities and community events throughout the year.

It will also enable the mosque to expand some of its existing fitness sessions, including boxing, and girls’ taekwondo and self‑defence classes.

Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd said: “It has been fantastic to see the community come together to fund the development of this space.

“It is so important for young people to have places where they can engage in meaningful activities, and this garden will give the community even more opportunities to host engaging events, particularly at weekends and during school holidays.”
