Commissioner marks 80th anniversary of VJ Day
Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd joined policing colleagues to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VJ Day.
Victory over Japan Day marks Japan’s surrender on August 15, 1945, which effectively brought an end to World War II.
To mark the occasion, a special service as held at Gwent Police headquarters in Cwmbran.
Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd said: “VJ Day is a time to honour the courage and sacrifice of all those who served during World War II, and also those who endured those traumatic times while serving their country on the home front.
“Today is a solemn reminder of the debt of gratitude we owe to that generation, whose bravery secured the freedoms we enjoy today, and of the importance of learning the lessons of war so that future generations may live in peace.”
