Commissioner joins residents for pride parade
The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Jane Mudd, joined residents in a parade through the streets of Newport to celebrate this year’s Pride in the Port.
Thousands of people gathered in Newport city centre for the event which celebrates diversity, inclusion and Gwent’s LGBTQIA+ community.
The Commissioner has also supported Pride events in Abergavenny, Caerphilly and Torfaen.
Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd said: “I am incredibly proud to support Pride in the Port. It was a fantastic event, and it was so wonderful to see so many people coming from all walks of life, and many different organisations, to celebrate together.
“Pride embodies the values of acceptance, tolerance and respect. These are all crucial for a society to function well and are particularly important in an area like Gwent where we have a growing and diverse population.
“I want Gwent to be somewhere where everyone can live their lives as themselves, free from fear and harm, and that is what we saw on the streets for Pride in the Port. I would like to thank everyone involved in organising the event, and all those who took part and came to celebrate together.”
