Commissioner helps to fund Christmas food parcels
Funding from the Police and Commissioner for Gwent, Jane Mudd has been used to help provide 250 Christmas food parcels to families across Blaenau Gwent.
The parcels contained a range of items including fresh meat, vegetables and Christmas essentials to make a hearty Christmas lunch. The food was packaged in bags, which were donated by local businesses and contained information leaflets signposting residents to Live Fear Free, a 24/7 helpline to provide help and support to help anyone experiencing abuse.
Local organisations, including Blaenau Gwent Youth Service, Cyfannol Women’s Aid, Pobl and Flying Start helped to distribute the parcels to families in Blaenau Gwent.
The food in the parcels was bought from local shops and businesses with funding from a wide range of sources, including the Commissioners donation. Local schools also supported the scheme by encouraging pupils to provide donations of food throughout the Autumn term.
Volunteers from Bryn Farm Community House and Brynmawr Rotary Club coordinated the packing of the parcels.
The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Jane Mudd said:
“Christmas is a time for thinking about others. I have huge respect the volunteers at Bryn Farm Community House, who work tirelessly to help residents in Brynmawr and surrounding areas. The Christmas food parcels help make a difference to those who need a helping hand at what can be a difficult time of year for some.
“I would like to thank all the volunteers at Bryn Farm Community House, and Brynmawr Rotary Club, and Brynmawr Town and Community Council for their dedication in helping others.”
