Catalytic converter marking
I recently joined Gwent Police at a garage in Blackwood where the We Don’t Buy Crime team were offering motorists free forensic catalytic converter marking to help protect their vehicles.
Catalytic converters are devices fitted to vehicle exhausts to reduce the amount of dangerous gases emitted. They are often targeted by thieves as they contain valuable metals and in some cases they can be removed in less than a minute.
You can have your vehicle marked at the following sessions:
Date: Sunday 7 November.
Time: 10am – 3pm.
Location: Abertillery MOT Centre, Bridge Street, Abertillery.
Date: Saturday 13 November.
Time: 10am – 3pm.
Location: Lake Road Garage, Bryn Mawr.
Date: Wednesday 17 November.
Time: 10am – 3pm.
Location: Rockhill Road Garage, Pontypool.
As well as marking vehicles to discourage thieves, the team are also working with
scrap metal merchants across Gwent to disrupt the criminal supply chain.
It is just one of the ways that Gwent Police’s We Don’t Buy Crime Team is working to keep residents safe.
We Don’t Buy Crime focuses on tackling acquisitive crime such as burglary and theft, and has been used by forces in England to successfully reduce repeat offending and victimisation.
