Question
1. What budget has your Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner set aside for the costs associated with commissioning Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) services? This might include staff costs, legal costs, cost of market engagement events etc. Please supply the answer as total budget for the financial year 2018/19.
Answer
Two duties are placed on public authorities under Section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA). Notwithstanding applicable exemptions, the first duty at, Section 1(1) (a), is to confirm or deny whether the information specified in a request is held. The second duty at, Section1 (1) (b), is to disclose information that has been confirmed as being held.
Under the provisions of those sections of the FOIA, we can confirm that the information you seek is held by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent (OPCC). Please find responses below.
1. What budget has your Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner set aside for the costs associated with commissioning Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) services? This might include staff costs, legal costs, cost of market engagement events etc. Please supply the answer as total budget for the financial year 2018/19.
In response to your request, you were informed that the OPCC did not set aside a specific budget for this purpose and you agreed to be provided with the funding that has been agreed for 2018/19 to date in relation to VAWG:
Funding provided for 2018/19 to date:
- Cyfannol Women’s Aid (provide domestic abuse and sexual violence services across Gwent ) - £69,100.00.
This is the only funding provided to a service that solely assists Women. We also provide funding to other organisations that provide these services but are not solely for the use of women and girls, these are:
- Gwent Regional Independent Domestic Violence Advisors - £151,809.00
- New Pathways (provide rape and sexual abuse support services via Independent Sexual Violence Advisors who offer counselling, support to witnesses and management of the Gwent Sexual
- Assault Referral Centre. Specialist provision is also provided to children who are victims of sexual abuse) - £184,124.00
- Establishment of a Modern Slavery Human Trafficking Advocate (MSHT results in survivors experiencing a range of harm and abuse) - £34,000.00
- We also provide funding to Victim Support to provide victim services to all people in Gwent on behalf of the OPCC totalling £371,947.92. This includes funding for a domestic abuse caseworker, but the whole team do and have supported VAWG issues.
